The plumber was tearing up the deck. The dryer sto The plumber was tearing up the deck. The dryer stopped working. My roommate fell and couldn't get up. I helped her back to bed. Found her phone. Made sure everyone had what they needed. Then I left for the beach anyway. A younger version of me would have stayed. Would have hovered. Would have checked on her "just in case" and cancelled my plans because someone might need me. That's what I was trained to do. Feel everything. Fix everything. Abandon myself in the process. But I've learned something. Empathy doesn't mean you stay trapped in other people's emergencies. Feeling someone's pain doesn't mean you owe them your day, your plans, your life. I felt all of it. The guilt. The pull. The old story that my needs come last. I left anyway. Not because I stopped caring. Because I finally started caring about myself too. If you've been the one who always stays, you're allowed to leave. #empathy #energy #nervoussystem
Robby got stuck in a thought loop. Vacuum. Counte Robby got stuck in a thought loop. Vacuum. Counter. Bump. Repeat. Honestly… we’ve all been Robby sometimes. When a system can’t see the pattern it’s trapped inside, it just keeps repeating the same movement. Humans do it too. We replay conversations. Second-guess decisions. Run the same emotional loops hoping for a different result. But here’s the interesting thing. Your brain isn’t just reacting. It’s detecting patterns and intention inside the environment. That’s what empathy actually is. Not emotion. Detection. And when you learn how to use that detection instead of getting stuck inside it… The loop breaks.
